The Auburn Fire Rescue will be holding an Emergency Medical Responder class this fall. The schedule is:

• Class on Mondays and Wednesdays between 6pm and 10pm;
• Starting September 5 and ending October 30th;
• Testing in early November, date to be announced;
• At the Auburn Safety Complex.

An Emergency Medical Responder is the first step in the levels of nationally certified and NH State licensed EMS providers. This is a great introduction into EMS work and allows the evaluation, treatment and transport of patients.

The biggest differences between paramedics, EMR's and EMTs are the training and the scope of practice (what they are allowed to do).  EMR's usually receive 80 – 100 hours of training, Basic EMTs usually receive 120 – 180 hours of training, while paramedics get anywhere from 1,200 hours to 1,800 hours of training.

Licensed EMR's are encouraged to join the Auburn and Candia Fire Departments and volunteer to respond to EMS and rescue calls.  Both the Auburn and Candia Volunteer Fire Departments provide EMS, fire and rescue services to their communities.  Members of departments can volunteer in whichever capacity they choose (medical only, fire only or both fire and medical).  We welcome all interested persons to inquire.
